Our Fairy Tale of Weird
What an incredible, epic, love-filled, rad ceremony and celebration! On September 24th, 2011, Marcy McDowell and Brian Bothwell were married. And these are some of my favorite photos. (we’ll have our Flickr sets up soon)
Our friend, Mike, was our Jedi Officiant for the ceremony, and Brian and I wrote our own very beautiful and heart-felt vows. We also included a spice ceremony and blended 7 spices together to make garam masala (one spice each for the two of us, our four kids, and one for LOVE) to honor the fact that we are a blended family. Our friend, Chrystalina, sang “May the Road Rise to Meet You” as we blended the spices. And our friend, Michael, recited a very special poem that we both love and cherish called “A Ritual to Read to Each Other”.
The multi-themed (India, SCIENCE, Robots, and Steampunk) affair was everything I’d hoped and dreamed it would be and MORE. Our guests were encouraged to wear costumes and follow one or more of the themes or bring their own flavor, and they did not disappoint.
Children were most welcome, because we wanted all of that amazing little kid energy at our celebration. We had an astro-jump bounce house for the kids, and our caterer prepared boxed meals of Mac-n-Cheese and yummy treats for them while the adults dined on amazing salmon and salads. The kids also all got gift baskets filled with toys.
We have many friends who are phenomenal, world-class musicians, so we invited all of them to bring their instruments and they had a killer jam session during the reception. Everyone enjoyed the music and great food. Then we busted out the 200 glow sticks and had an epic dance party.
And, the result? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
